DDR5 Supply Tightens: What Changes in a PCBA Quote?

TrendForce's October 21 market bulletin reports tight DDR5 spot availability and wider fourth-quarter DRAM price increases. The signal matters to PCB assembly projects that buy affected memory, but it does not imply a blanket increase in bare PCB prices. Buyers should isolate the memory line in a quote and confirm the exact part, channel and price validity.

DDR5 Supply Tightens: What Changes in a PCBA Quote?

The change buyers should notice

DDR5 availability has become a sharper cost question for some PCB assembly programs. In its October 21, 2026 DRAM bulletin, TrendForce says DDR5 is hard to source in the spot market and vendors are widening fourth-quarter contract price increases. That calls for a fresh check of memory-dependent PCBA quotes; it does not establish a price increase for every assembled board or bare PCB.

What the numbers mean

TrendForce's September 30 forecast projected a 10% to 15% quarter-on-quarter rise in conventional DRAM contract prices in Q4 2026. This is a market forecast across a DRAM category, not an observed DDR5 price for an exact manufacturer part number. Its October 21 bulletin adds a more recent spot-market signal and says PC DRAM supply is set to contract in 2027. The latter is an outlook, not a confirmed future shipment volume.

Contract and spot markets also describe different buying situations. A large customer with negotiated allocations may face terms unlike a smaller buyer seeking an urgent lot through distribution. Neither the forecast percentage nor a spot headline should be added mechanically to a PCB or PCBA quotation. The relevant question is whether the approved BOM contains affected memory, in what quantity, and under which purchasing arrangement.

Where the cost enters a build

For a bare PCB order, memory is not part of the supplied board. A DRAM market move alone gives no basis for raising its fabrication price. For turnkey PCBA, the memory device can be a material cost and schedule constraint alongside the PCB, assembly and test. Under a consigned model, the customer may bear the component purchase exposure directly, while the assembler still needs the approved parts on hand for the build.

An overseas buyer comparing suppliers should therefore request the same assembly scope and supply model from each. Ask for the exact memory MPN and approved source, the quantity available for the intended build, the component price validity date, and whether the quote assumes allocation or open-market purchase. Keep the memory line visible rather than treating a changing component cost as a general manufacturing surcharge.

What to decide now

If the part is on a critical BOM, refresh authorized-channel availability before fixing a delivery promise or accepting a long-validity customer quote. If a proposed replacement has a different speed, density, package or qualification status, route it through design, firmware and test approval before changing the BOM. For a repeat program, compare the cost of staged purchasing against the risk of excess stock using the actual forecast and cancellation terms.

JETFGO's English site describes PCB fabrication, component sourcing and turnkey, partial-turnkey or consigned PCB assembly. Its public pages do not state DDR5 stock, prices or allocation. A project-specific inquiry should identify the memory MPN, approved alternatives, BOM revision and intended purchasing model so the quoted scope is clear.

The October signal is specific: memory sourcing can change the economics of a memory-heavy PCBA even while the bare-board specification remains the same. The decision is to price and qualify that component explicitly, not to assume every PCB cost moves with DRAM.
